The main topic of this article is to examine the reasons for intellectual goodness and ugliness as one of the principles accepted by the followers of the Imamiyya (Twelver Shiʿi). The primary part of the paper analyzes the reasons that have been presented thus far through rational means to prove intellectual goodness and ugliness. In this regard, the rational arguments for intellectual goodness and ugliness, as they appear in theological texts (kutub-i kalāmī), are first mentioned, and then rewritten and reviewed logically for further scrutiny.
The result of examining rational reasons is that they are incomplete in proving rational goodness and ugliness. Of course, it should be noted that the inadequacy of these arguments in proving rational goodness and ugliness is not a reason to reject rational goodness and ugliness; rather, it is an opportunity to examine this issue and its arguments more closely. Due to the importance of the subject, the author tries to clarify the weaknesses of the arguments in order to help researchers who are trying to strengthen these arguments
