Abstract
This research has examined the sources of moral knowledge in the perspectives of Sheikh Tusi and Qadi Abdul Jabbar using a comparative-analytical method. The main goal was to analyze their similarities and differences in explaining the sources of moral knowledge (reason, revelation, sense), the concept of rational goodness and ugliness, and the relationship of reason to tradition. The results of the research show that both thinkers agree on the broad principles of moral rationalism; that is, they consider reason to be an independent source for understanding moral values, believe in the objectivity and innateness of goodness and ugliness, and consider revelation to be complementary and clarifying to reason. The focus of the disagreement is on the limits and authority of this reason. Qadi Abdul Jabbar, with an institutional and autonomous approach, introduces reason as the final and direct arbiter of authenticity, which even makes the validity of tradition dependent on its confirmation. In contrast, Sheikh Tusi, within the framework of the Imamiyyah school, places reason within an interconnected system consisting of reason, tradition, and the doctrine of infallibility. In this model of guided rationalism, reason, while maintaining its fundamental position, receives ultimate guidance through the infallible interpretation of revelation. This comparative study reveals two distinct but rich models of religious rationality that can be helpful in interreligious dialogue as well as in understanding contemporary moral philosophy.
